Health, Hunger, Thirst

Unlike vanilla, TerraFirmaCraft uses three bars to represent your vitals: a red bar for health, a green bar for hunger, and a blue bar for thirst.

Health

Instead of the vanilla heart system, players have a health bar which has 1000 health by default. Mob health is also increased, although not proportionally; creepers for instance have much less health relative to the player than in vanilla. Health heals very slowly over time, faster when the player's hunger bar is more completely filled. While a player's health is increased, the damage dealt by a bare fist IS NOT. This means that punching a mob will still deal 1 point of damage.

Hunger

The hunger system in TFC is different than vanilla. Players do not have to have their hunger bar filled to a certain point to heal, although it does increase the rate of health regeneration. While holding food in the player's hand, the depleted hunger bar will light up slightly, indicating how much the particular food would increase the player's hunger by. Unlike vanilla, the hunger bar does slowly deplete over time while the player is standing still. Hunger is primarily depleted by performing actions such as breaking blocks or attacking.

Thirst

TerraFirmaCraft introduces the thirst bar. The thirst bar, like the hunger bar, slowly depletes over time even while the player does not move. It can be refilled by drinking water, either by standing or swimming in it or by drinking from a water bottle. Thirst is primarily depleted by moving around and affects whether or not the player can sprint. When the thirst bar is low enough, the player will acquire slowness debuffs until the thirst bar is replenished. Allowing the thirst bar to deplete fully will cause the player to take damage.

Note: As of Build 77, standing or being submerged in water no longer replenishes your thirst instantly. It replenishes thirst slowly. Instead, you can use a Ceramic Jug to refill your thirst bar.

Additional Information

Experience

TFC has no formal way of enchanting tools, weapons or armour (the only way to obtain enchanted items is from monster drops). Instead, the experience system represents life experience, and so each level increases a player's maximum health, hunger and thirst, allowing them to take more hits, and survive longer without eating or drinking.

Death

As in vanilla, all levels are lost on death, resetting the bonuses attained from them. In addition, players will respawn with decreased health and hunger bars and a slowness debuff. This is designed to encourage players to play more carefully and to protect themselves.
